Borussia Dortmund Put ‘Blazing Passion’ On Display with Special Edition Kit

German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund is harkening back to its city’s industrial roots with a new special edition kit.

The club unveiled the jerseys on Friday, February 17, and will wear them at home against Hertha Berlin on Sunday, February 19. They pay tribute to the coal and steel industries that helped establish the city of Dortmund.

In the formative period of industrialization, people built up the city of Dortmund and also BVB with hard work. These people and their virtues are still appreciated today. The fire they started connects the city, the fans and the club across generations; it lives on and rekindles the enthusiasm and passion for our BVB again and again.

The jerseys, manufactured by Puma, are black with a charcoal pattern all over. The names and numbers on the back have a metallic grey “steel look” with a map of the city of Dortmund incorporated into them. The club crest, Puma logo, Bundesliga logo and sponsor logos are all black with a glossy finish so they stand out when the light hits them the right way.

Borussia Dortmund wore a similar black-on-black jersey in 2019 to celebrate the club’s 110th anniversary. Chief marketing officer Carsten Cramer said in Friday’s announcement that the club had fielded many requests from fans to bring that kit back.
