For their 10th birthday, Sacramento Republic FC is getting all dressed up.
The USL Championship club launched its new Legacy Kit this week as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations. The kit is manufactured by Danish sportswear company Hummel — marking a break with their previous supplier, Nike.
“This season will be a year-long celebration of how our club and community have grown,” Republic chairman and CEO Kevin Nagle said on the club’s website. “The Legacy Kit salutes the proud heritage of our club, built by fans and friends, who have helped create a foundation for the next decade of Republic FC to thrive upon.”
The kit is predominantly black, with metallic grey underarm panels, collar trim and sleeve cuffs meant to represent tin, a traditional 10th anniversary gift. Running diagonally across the front of the shirt are icons — most in grey, but those on the edges in white — “that connect back to the club’s founding and the seasons that followed.”
The icons include:
- A solid star representing “the club’s unfathomable first season” in 2014 in which they won the USL Championship.
- The Tower Bridge, a landmark in Sacramento.
- 38.5816° N and 121.4944° W, the coordinates of Sacramento City Hall.
- Urbs Indomita (“Indomitable City”), the motto of Sacramento, which is also found in the club crest (seen below).
- A Republic FC wordmark and the bear from the club crest.
- The number 10.
- The years 2014 and 2023.
- A quail head silhouette and quail feather pattern from a supporter-inspired kit worn during the 2021 season.
The back of the shirt is solid black, and names and numbers will be printed on the back in white. A 10th anniversary logo sits on the back collar, consisting of a red bevelled number 10 with a red star inside the zero. An embossed black pattern runs under the grey Hummel chevrons on the shoulders.
The Legacy Kit is available for pre-order now through the Republic’s online store. They’ll wear the kits on the pitch for the first time on Saturday, March 11, when they open their 2023 USL Championship season with a trip to Texas to take on El Paso Locomotive. The Republic’s home opener will take place a week earlier against Charleston Battery.
