Canadian Premier League side Valour FC pays tributes to its home city of Winnipeg and its military past with its new kits for 2023, made by Macron.
The kits were unveiled on Friday, March 10, at an event for supporters. According to the CanPL website, they display “a mix of classic and modern kit elements to create a look that uniquely represents the city of Winnipeg where the club plays.”
The primary kit is predominantly Valour’s signature shade of maroon, with a sublimated map of the Winnipeg on the front. The raglan sleeves are solid maroon. The sleeve cuffs are black with gold trim, while the V-neck collar is mostly maroon with black and gold trim at the front. The Macron logos on the right chest and shoulders are white, while a gold logo of sponsor One Soccer sits on the chest.
The alternate kit, meanwhile, is predominantly black with a tonal graphic all over that creates “a vintage effect.” On the right side of the front of the jersey are three maroon claw marks with gold drop shadows. These claw marks are a reference to the lion depicted on the Victoria Cross, which is the highest military honor awarded in Canada. The motto “Pro Valore” (“For Valour”) appears below the lion on the Victoria Cross medal. The collar and sleeve cuffs are maroon with gold trim.
Valour FC opens its 2023 Canadian Premier League on Sunday, April 16, when they visit York United. Their home opener at IG Field in Winnipeg takes place on Saturday, April 22, against Atlético Ottawa.
