Chain Reaction: Hamilton Flag Inspires 2023 Kits for CanPL’s Forge FC

Canadian Premier League side Forge FC is hoping to create a “chain” reaction with their new kits for 2023, made by Macron.

The Hamilton-based club unveiled the kits at an event for supporters on Tuesday, March 14, which was postponed from Friday, March 10, due to inclement weather in southern Ontario. Both kits draw inspiration from the City of Hamilton’s flag — specifically the chain that surrounds the cinquefoil flower in the middle of the flag. The six large links in the chain represent the city’s six communities of Hamilton, Ancaster, Dundas, Flamborough, Glanbrook and Stoney Creek.

The primary kit is predominantly orange, with a chain graphic surrounding the crest on the left chest. More chain graphics radiate out from there, with some of them containing a tonal abstract pattern made up of triangles. The sleeve cuffs and standup collar are steel grey and white.

The front of Forge FC’s alternate kit features a black and steel grey herringbone design, “a nod to the city’s industrious history,” according to the club. Each black section includes a chain accent. The back and sleeve are solid black, while the sleeve cuffs are solid grey. The back half of the notched collar has black and grey stripes, while the front half is grey.

As defending CanPL champions, authentic versions of both Forge FC 2023 kits will feature a gold North Star below the crest on the left chest, as well as a gold legacy patch on the right sleeve with a number 3 inside to commemorate their CanPL titles in 2019, 2020 and 2022. Both kits also feature logo of new league-wide sponsor CIBC on the left sleeve.
