After wearing the logo of Canadian rapper Drake earlier this season, FC Barcelona are looking closer to home for the next musical artist to feature on the front of their kits.
The La Liga giants announced on Wednesday, March 15, that — as part of their sponsorship deal with streaming service Spotify — they would sport the logo of Spanish singer Rosalía‘s latest album, “Motomami,” on the front of their kits during their El Clásico match against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou on Sunday, March 19.
Barça’s women’s team will also wear kits with the Motomami logo in a match against Real Madrid on Saturday, March 25.
Barça and Spotify have picked ROSALÍA because it is a year ago this month that her album MOTOMAMI was released, a record that has stretched the boundaries of contemporary music. Her third studio album was met with international critical acclaim, and among many other distinctions was named Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album at the 65th Grammy Awards. The project features such tracks as ‘Despechá’, ‘La fama’, ‘Saoko’ and ‘Bizcochito’, which has become an anthem for the young generation and has been played several hundred million times on Spotify.— FCBarcelona.com
Rosalía hails from Catalonia, the same autonomous community of Spain in which the city of Barcelona is located. FC Barcelona has long been a champion of the Catalan people, and almost always displays the community’s flag, the Senyera, in some form on their kits.
Barça notes in their announcement that Rosalía “was the top streamed born in Spanish territory artist worldwide on Spotify in 2022, and plays of her songs on the service increased by 110% year over year. In 2022 she was the most played female artist in the city of Barcelona.”
Barça have created two sets of limited edition jerseys to go along with this announcement. One set will feature the Motomami logo on the front and Rosalía’s name on the back, along with the number 1. Only 1,899 of these shirts will be printed, and are on sale for €399.99 through club shops and their online store.
The second set of kits will feature glow-in-the-dark lettering, and only 22 of them will be produced. Each shirt is numbered from 1 to 11 and will be signed by one of the Barça men’s or women’s players in the starting lineup of their respective matches against Real Madrid. They are available for pre-order through Barça’s online shop for €1,999.99 each.
