Adidas Launches Stunning Nature-Inspired Away Kits for Women’s World Cup Teams

The countdown to this summer’s 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand is on, and Adidas cranked up the hype machine this week with the release of new away kits for six teams it will outfit during the tournament.

The kits were unveiled on Thursday, March 23, and according to an Adidas press release, “each federation kit is inspired by nature, celebrating the iconic scenery and diverse natural landscapes of each country.”

“The FIFA Women’s World Cup is the absolute pinnacle of the sport — capturing the imaginations of both current and new fans across the globe. As with every major competition, we know the designs will become etched into football’s history books,” said Sam Handy, vice president of product and design with Adidas Football. “With the tournament being held in Australia and New Zealand — two countries with iconic landscapes — we wanted to create a common theme throughout our kits, in celebration and appreciation of the wonders of the natural environments that can be found around the world.”

Here are the kits unveiled Thursday and what Adidas had to say about each of them:

🇦🇷 ARGENTINA 🇦🇷

Striking landscapes from Serranía de Hornocal in the north to Ushuaia in the south, the Argentina away kit signifies the diverse natural landscapes found across the country.

Argentina will play in Group G alongside Sweden, South Africa and Italy.

🇨🇴 COLOMBIA 🇨🇴

The Colombian away kit pays homage to the many hues of the Caño Cristales River — often referred to as the ‘River of Five Colors’ — celebrating the unique changing phenomenon that occurs due to the reflection of light against the water. Utilizing traditional federation colors, re-imagined through the lens of flowing water and the reflection of light, the design brings in a fresh look that celebrates the country’s rich biodiversity.

Colombia will play in Group H alongside Germany, Morocco and South Korea.

🇩🇪 GERMANY 🇩🇪

Germany’s away jersey is inspired by the various deep green woodland areas found within the country — from the Black Forest to the Zauberwald. The various shades of green and bespoke handmade graphic celebrate Germany’s vast woodlands — which cover an area equivalent to one third of the country’s land mass.

🇯🇵 JAPAN 🇯🇵

Japan’s away kit takes its pink color cues from the beautiful pink sunrise that can be witnessed at Mount Fuji. The sunrise represents the collective mission of the Japanese team — as the Women’s World Cup emerges on the horizon — to add another winner’s star to the team badge.

Japan will play in Group C alongside Spain, Costa Rica and Zambia.

🇪🇸 SPAIN 🇪🇸

The Spanish away jersey takes inspiration from the beautiful coral reefs that can be found around Spain’s vast coastlines — a feature the country shares with the famous coral reefs found in the tournament’s host nations of Australia and New Zealand.

🇸🇪 SWEDEN 🇸🇪

Sweden’s away jersey is inspired by the vast glacial rivers and ice caps that can be found across the country. Combining a changing glacial blue graphic, with trims and details in the iconic yellow color synonymous with the nation — the design seeks to highlight the beauty and importance of the nation’s glaciers.

Adidas will also outfit Costa Rica, Jamaica and Italy in the World Cup, all of whom had already released their kits for the tournament before Thursday. Adidas also released the match ball for the tournament in January. Another Adidas-outfitted team, the Philippines, will release their kits “in the coming months.”

Along the World Cup teams, Adidas also launched new away kits Thursday for some women’s national teams it outfits that won’t be in Australia and New Zealand this summer:
