For Canadian Premier League side Atlético Ottawa, their home city is at the heart of the club’s 2023 primary and alternate kits, made by Macron.
Atlético unveiled their primary kit on their social media channels on Thursday, March 30. Dubbed the “City Kit,” it wraps “many elements about our city and community” into a jersey they hope represents Ottawa on the national soccer stage.
The jersey features two vertical red stripes and three white vertical stripes on the front. Inside the red stripes is a “camo-style pattern” with abstract heart shapes that approximate an outline of the city of Ottawa.
The back of the kit is solid red with a tonal map of the whole city, with smaller municipal borders inside as “a testament to our commitment to our inclusivity and unity within our community.” At the bottom of the map is a W, “a tribute to our loyal and passionate fans, based in ‘The Dub’ and found throughout our stadium.”
The sleeves are red and also feature the camouflage pattern from the front stripes. The back half of the collar is navy blue, with white and red trim. The sleeve cuffs are solid navy blue, as is an insert at the front of the collar. The front of the jersey also features new main sponsor Maple Lodge Farms.
The alternate kit, meanwhile, was officially released by Atlético Ottawa on Friday, March 31, but not before graphics featuring the kit were leaked on Reddit the day before. They show a white kit with blue and grey markings all over to make it look like ice that has been skated on. “Our City embraces the Winter. There is beauty in the cold,” the graphic reads. “The pattern represents the ice and snow — our second favourite season.”
The ice pattern is also an homage to the Rideau Canal, which runs through Ottawa and turns into the world’s longest skating rink every winter. “[The canal,] over the past 50 years, has connected communities and brought together people of all backgrounds and generations.”
The jersey is anchored by a solid navy blue V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs. The Maple Lodge Farms logo is navy blue with a white outline.
Atlético Ottawa opens its 2023 Canadian Premier League season on Saturday, April 15, when they host HFX Wanderers FC at TD Place Stadium.
