Almost a year to the day after he announced the Philadelphia Eagles planned to bring back their Kelly green throwback uniforms, chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie confirmed during the annual owners meeting on Tuesday the franchise will reintroduce the look this season.

“I’m super excited,” Lurie said. “I don’t know what date that’s going to be, but I think fans will love it. It’s why we’re bringing it back. We really took the feedback seriously over the years. The first moment we could get the Kelly green helmet approved, we’ll finally be able to see it on the field.”

The Eagles originally wore Kelly green uniforms from 1935-95, as well as for the 2010 season opener. However, the league implemented a one-helmet rule in 2013 that prevented them from being worn again until the franchise led the charge to have that rule scrapped beginning with last season.

Philadelphia was one of 13 teams to introduce a second helmet in 2022, as it paired a new black alternate design with black jerseys and pants. The hope was to add the Kelly green helmet on top of that this season, but a formal proposal for a third helmet was not on the docket this week.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Wednesday the Eagles are expected to formally unveil the uniforms sometime after the NFL schedule release in May, as well as that the uniforms are set to be an exact replica of what Reggie White and Randall Cunningham wore in the 1980s-90s.
