CFL’s Toronto Argonauts Unveil Light Blue Helmets; New Uniforms May Also Be On the Way

The Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts are riding a wave of nostalgia into their 2023 season with the unveiling of new helmets.

The Argos revealed the new light blue helmets on their social media channels on Friday, May 5. The reveal videos featured plenty of imagery around rowing and Lake Ontario, referencing the team’s founding in 1873 by members of the Argonaut Rowing Club who formed a rugby-football club as a way to stay fit through the winter.

The helmet seen in the video has a solid light blue shell with the Argos’ football boat logo on each side and a navy blue facemask. There doesn’t appear to be any striping down the middle of the helmet.

The nose bumper and neck bumper are both white; the nose bumper features the club slogan “PULL TOGETHER” in navy blue, while the neck bumper features “TORONTO” in navy blue and in a new stylized font.

A shot of the back of the helmet shows a Canadian flag decal and a navy blue player number with a white outline set in a stylized block font.

The logo decals on each side of the helmet in the video appear to be set quite far back. This may have to do with the make and model of helmet the Argos chose to use in the video. We’ll have to wait and see if they’re set that far back once they see game action.

These new helmets may be a sneak preview of new uniforms for the Boatmen this season. On Thursday, May 4, the team tweeted a video of players opening equipment bags and reacting positively to what they found inside. The video ends with a date: May 23, 2023.

“Something new is coming,” they also tweeted on May 4. “We can’t spill just yet, but trust us when we say it’s worth the wait 👀🤫”

The Argonauts revived the football boat logo as their primary logo in 2021, and had worn it on a solid navy helmet since.
