With the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500 now in the rearview mirror, Indianapolis Motor Speedway has revealed the logo for next year’s race, which will take place on May 26, 2024.
The logo is an artistic representation of the victory podium at IMS, which lifts the winning driver and his car onto a raised platform where he receives the winner’s wreath and drinks milk in a tradition that dates back to 1936.
It is primarily red with a gold outline as a nod to the “Yard of Bricks,” as the 2.5-mile oval track was paved with bricks in 1909 before being completely covered with asphalt in 1961, aside from a 36-inch strip at the start/finish line.
Winners of the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR’s Brickyard 400 have kissed the bricks since 1996, and the tradition has continued even after the latter was replaced in 2021 by a combined road course called the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard.
The “Indy 500” wordmark is displayed at the center of the logo, just as it has been since 2019, when IMS introduced a standardized system. It is surrounded by the race number above and the date and the “Wing and Wheel” logo below, all of which are in gold.
Gainbridge, which is the sponsor of the race and the naming rights holder for the arena in which the NBA’s Indiana Pacers play their home games, also has its logo below the “Indy 500” wordmark.
Previous iterations of the standardized logo system featured the bricks in 2019, the checkered flag in 2020, the Pagoda in 2021, the winner’s wreath in 2022 and the oval in 2023. The 2020 and 2022 renditions were also primarily red.
