On the same day as their 2022-23 season wrapped up, Spain’s top-flight domestic soccer league gave fans a sneak peek of big changes coming for 2023-24.
La Liga unveiled a new league logo on Sunday, June 4, just hours after their final matches of the 2022-23 season drew to a close. The video — posted to Twitter with the caption “Próxima temporada…” (“Next season …”) — shows the old league logo morphing into a futuristic, angular “LL” monogram, followed by a wordmark with “LALIGA” in all caps.
The league will also have a new sponsor starting in 2023-24. It was announced last August that EA Sports FC will be the title sponsor of La Liga and all its competitions, replacing their former sponsor, banking company Santander.
La Liga has used its current logo of a soccer ball inside a color wheel since 1993. Until 2016, it had the initials “LFP” underneath, which stood for the league’s longer official name, the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional.
While the unveiling video only showed logos in black and white, Footy Headlines reports that the new visual identity will use a coral red as its primary color.
More details about the new visual identity system — including a new typeface for names and numbers on jerseys — are expected over the summer. The 2023-24 La Liga season will kick off on August 12.
UPDATE (5:00 p.m. MT, Monday, June 5): We’ve got our first look at the new La Liga logo in color courtesy of Real Sociedad. The club included a photo of the new La Liga sleeve patch in the listing in their online shop for their 2023-24 home kit, made by Macron. The bottom left corner of the rectangular patch is rounded off, and it includes the league logo in the rumored coral red color. It also has a red border and a slogan repeated in grey just inside the border: “THE POWER OF OUR FÚTBOL”.
