CF Montréal Officially Launches Primary Kits, Debuts Them vs. Minnesota United

After it was spotted for sale before its launch, Major League Soccer side CF Montréal has made it official, unveiling its new primary kit on social media and debuting it on the field.

CF Montréal officially launched the new primary kit on Thursday, June 8 — a day after falling 2-1 to the Vancouver Whitecaps in the Canadian Championship final — and wore them for the first time when they hosted Minnesota United in MLS action on Saturday, June 10.

Marking the club’s 30th anniversary, the unveiling video featured a number of jerseys from throughout their history along with former players including Patrice Bernier, Mauro Biello, Ignacio Piatti, Nevio Pizzolitto and Greg Sutton. At the end, current club captain Samuel Piette wears the new kit alongside academy players Emrick Fotsing and Esther Brossard.

The blue jersey features tapering black lines of varying density forming chevrons going up and down the shirt to resemble vertical stripes. The Adidas shoulder stripes are grey, as is the taping down each side and across the back hem of the jersey. The V-neck collar is solid blue with a black and grey insert at the front, while the sleeve cuffs are black with grey trim.

In February 2023, CF Montréal announced it would delay the release of its new primary kit while it continued to consult with Indigenous communities about including an inscription in an Indigenous language somewhere on the jersey. No such inscription was visible on the jersey in the unveiling video or photos released on Thursday.

“The Club is committed to developing lasting and sincere relationships with Indigenous communities,” CF Montréal said in a statement in February. “As the consultation process is still ongoing, we have decided to pause distribution of the 2023 primary jersey to strengthen our approach by listening, collaborating, and co-creating concrete initiatives with Indigenous communities.”

CF Montréal had been wearing its grey secondary kit with a blue marble effect and black trim so far in the 2023 MLS season.
