Women are leading the way for Spanish soccer powerhouses FC Barcelona as they enter the 2023-24 season in new kits made by Nike.
The defending La Liga champions unveiled their new kits on their website on Thursday, June 15. The classic blue and red vertical stripes are complemented by a club crest with an important detail: a diamond embossed overtop to represent Barça’s first women’s supporter’s group and the first women’s team to play a game at the Camp Nou.
“The badge draws on the spirit of those pioneering ladies who got together in 1970 and played a game of women’s football in the stadium. They led by example, set a precedent, proving themselves to be pioneers, and paving the way for future generations. Now, over 50 years later, young Barça players are set to lead and pave the way for the Club in the coming years, reinforcing one of FC Barcelona’s core concepts, to be leaders in everything they do.”

In 1970, a Barça supporter named Inma Cabeceran sent a letter to then-club president Agustí Montal i Costa with a proposal to create a women’s team. This led to a women’s match being played at the Camp Nou — albeit behind closed doors — on Christmas Day that year.
Afterwards, the women’s supporter’s group was founded under the name Penya Femenina Barcelonista (PFB). Their crest was “a combination of the traditional Barça crest with the typical diamond shape used by the reserve team.”
The PFB eventually morphed into FC Barcelona Femení, which has gone on to win Liga F eight times, the Copa de la Reina nine times, and the UEFA Women’s Champions League twice — including all three of those competitions in 2022-23.
The front and back of Barça’s 2023-24 home jersey feature three broad blue stripes and two red stripes. Each stripe has a small zigzag pattern at its borders. The shoulders of the jersey are blue while the sleeves are red.
The Nike swoosh on the right chest and the sponsor logos on the chest and left sleeve are white. A small graphic representing the Catalan flag is included on the back collar. Names and numbers will be printed in white using a new typeface that’s part of La Liga’s visual identity overhaul for 2023-24.
The 2023-24 La Liga season will begin on Friday, August 11; fixtures will be released on June 22. Before La Liga kicks off, though, Barcelona is scheduled to play four preseason friendlies in the United States:
- July 22 v Juventus – Levi’s Stadium; Santa Clara, California
- July 26 v Arsenal – SoFi Stadium; Inglewood, California
- July 29 v Real Madrid – AT&T Stadium; Arlington, Texas
- August 1 v AC Milan – Allegiant Stadium; Las Vegas, Nevada
