Ahead of their on-field debut on Canada Day, the Canadian Football League’s Montreal Alouettes have unveiled their new red alternate uniforms.
The Alouettes first announced an alternate uniform was on the way back in May, and then posted photos and videos of the new duds to their website and social media platforms on Thursday, June 22. It will be worn on the field for the first time on Saturday, July 1, when the Als host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Percival Molson Stadium.
“Red runs through our veins since 1946,” the promotional material for the unveiling reads.
The alternate jersey is solid red, with a navy blue collar and sleeve cuffs and blue-and-white UCLA-style stripes running over the shoulders. The numbers are white with navy blue outlines, and are set in the same block font the Alouettes use for their regular home and road jerseys.
The alternate has a white “ALOUETTES” wordmark on the chest, as opposed to the home and road jerseys, which both have “MONTRÉAL” wordmarks. The navy blue home and white road jerseys also both have one broad, red stripe running over each shoulder.
The pants that go with the alternate jersey are also red, with blue and white stripes down the sides. Inside the white stripe, near the top, are small logos in navy blue from throughout the Alouettes’ history. The current Alouettes’ logo sits on the right hip in navy blue. The socks are solid red.
The red alternate uniform will be paired with the Als’ regular blue helmet, which was revamped prior to the 2022 CFL season.
The Alouettes hit the road to play the Hamilton Tiger-Cats tonight (Friday, June 23) at Tim Hortons Field before returning home to face the Bombers on Canada Day.
