English Premier League giants Manchester United are hoping some flower power on their new home kits will propel them to great things in the 2023-24 season.
The club unveiled their new home kits, made by Adidas, on Tuesday, June 27. The kits are Manchester United’s traditional shade of red, but the front and sleeves are covered in a tonal geometric pattern of Lancaster roses. The back is solid red.
The angular geometry of the roses “draws inspiration from the bridge over the River Irwell, which connects Manchester and Salford and stands as a symbol of the city’s strength and its profound impact on the world during the industrial revolution.”
A full-color rose appears inside the black crew neck collar, which has red and white trim, while the Adidas shoulder stripes are black. The side panels and the taping down the sides and across the back hem are black with the some tonal rose pattern found on the front and sleeves.
In promotional photos released Tuesday, the red shirt was paired with white shorts and black socks. The white shorts have black Adidas stripes down the sides and black stripes on the back hems. The black socks have the tonal rose pattern along with a white cuff with black Adidas stripes and a red devil from the club crest on the front.
Along with the new kits, Manchester United also debuted a new name and number font for cup competitions. Like the previous font, many of the letters and numerals are cut off at angles, but the new font is thicker and has more pronounced serifs.
Manchester United’s preseason fixtures kick off on July 12 with a match against Leeds United in Oslo, Norway. They then take on Olympique Lyonnais in Edinburgh, Scotland, before embarking on a tour of the United States that will see them face Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. They close out their preseason against Athletic Bilbao on August 6 in Dublin, Ireland.
