Major League Soccer is hoping their All-Stars shine next month with a little help from new kits, made by Adidas.
MLS launched its 2023 All-Star Game kits on Tuesday, June 27 — about three weeks before the league’s best players are scheduled to take on Premier League side Arsenal in Washington, D.C.
The kits are black with white Adidas shoulder stripes, side panels and taping down the sides and across the back hem. A red star pattern radiates out from underneath the white Target sponsor logo on the chest, fading to black the further out it goes. A white MLS shield sits on the left chest, while a white Adidas logo appears on the right chest.
An embossed diamond pattern is visible on the back and sleeves. On the back collar is a red “ASG23” wordmark with red bars above and below and three red stars on top, taking visual cues from Washington, D.C.’s flag.
None of the photos released Tuesday indicated what color shorts and socks would go with the jersey. But a tweet from MLS honoring several “hometown heroes” from across the District of Columbia indicates the names and numbers on the back would be printed in white.
Other All-Star memorabilia went on sale Tuesday, including scarves, hats, T-shirts, flags, lanyards and pennants. All have a black, red and white color scheme, mirroring that of host club D.C. United.
The MLS All-Stars face Arsenal on Wednesday, July 19, at Audi Field, in Washington, D.C. Last week, MLS and Adidas introduced a special match ball for the game as part of their collaboration with comic book company Marvel.
