2023 MLB All-Star Game Uniforms Released, New Nike Jersey Cut League-Wide for 2024

When the Boys of Summer take the field on July 11, 2023, for the Mid-Summer Classic in Seattle, they’ll be wearing a new jersey design AND the all-new 2024 Nike Vapor Premier uniform chassis.

But before I get into Nike’s new cut, let’s take a look at the design of these All-Star unis.

For the 2023 MLB All-Star Game, players will once again be outfitted in special matching uniforms created for the event rather than just showing up in what they’ve been wearing all season. This will be the third season in which this has happened. What’s different in 2023, however, is that players will now wear jerseys that read their league name across the front rather than their team – while in 2021 and 2022, they all wore matching designs, they still wore their individual team name across the front — here in 2023 the jerseys say “AMERICAN” or “NATIONAL” depending on the league in which their team plays.

It’s pretty much the same idea as the old Home Run Derby jerseys, worn from 1997 to 2017, with players wearing “AMERICAN” or “NATIONAL” across their tops. The difference now, of course, is instead of just being worn in the Derby, it’ll be worn in the actual MLB All-Star Game itself. Players will wear their usual home team uniforms during the 2023 Derby as they’ve done since 2018.

The 2023 MLB All-Star Game uniforms take their inspiration from the logos and colours of the host Seattle Mariners while also paying tribute to the “natural beauty” of the Pacific Northwest by incorporating a “print that blends elements of its neighbouring ocean, forests, topography and the movement of air.”

The home American League All-Stars will wear a teal (Northwest Geen?) design with “AMERICAN” across the front in white; the second “A” in “AMERICAN” has been replaced with a combination of the nautical star (from the Seattle Mariners logo) and the MLB logo in the M’s colourway of navy blue/white/teal. The collar is navy blue, as are the cuffs.

For the visiting National League All-Stars, it’s the same design but with a navy blue base. Across the chest is “NATIONAL,” again featuring the Mariners branding instead of the second “A.” While the inside of the AL jersey matches the colour of its exterior, the inside of the NL jersey is a light blue, which can be seen when viewing the “ASG 23” hanger tag.

Player numbers on the front, team logos on the back

The 2023 MLB All-Star Game logo is worn on the left sleeve (complete with Mastercard branding) of both league’s uniforms; the player’s team logo will be worn as a patch on the right sleeve recoloured in navy blue, teal, and white; and their jersey number will be worn on the front left. Player names are arched on the back in white over the number.

Down at the jock tag are the words “THE FUTURE IS * HERE” in reference to the future of baseball on display in these uniforms — the All-Stars and the new Nike jersey cut. Below that are the coordinates “47.5914°N, 122.3325°W,” which, you guessed it, points right to the home of Frank Stallone the 2023 All-Star Game and the Seattle Mariners, T-Mobile Park.

These jerseys will be paired on-field with the mint-coloured New Era 2023 MLB All-Star Game caps (no, not a matching teal or navy blue), which the league unveiled this past week. The Stance socks are a more appropriate navy blue with teal elements, with a large white ASG23 logo on the front and the same nautical rose/MLB logo hybrid from the jersey lettering placed on the back.

The American League All-Stars will wear white pants; the National League side will go with Navy blue pants to match their jersey.

NIKE VAPOR PREMIER UNIFORM

As teased in the opening paragraph, this is also the Major League Baseball on-field début of the brand new Nike Vapor Premier uniform style, which will be worn by all Major League teams starting with the 2024 season — that’s all on-field home uniforms, road uniforms, alternate uniforms, and City Connect uniforms, they’ll all be in the Nike Vapor Premier chassis starting next year.

This new uniform was developed over the last four years, “engineered to improve mobility, moisture management and fit.” According to the league, the jersey has “25% more stretch” and dries “28% faster” than the uniforms currently worn by Major League ballplayers. The new uniform is made of 90% recycled polyester yarns and will be “more athletic and form-fitting” than the previous jersey. So, as a non-athlete, I’ll have to rely on that extra 25% stretch whenever I grab an authentic one at retail.

The 2023 All-Star jersey design pays tribute to the “natural beauty” of the Pacific Northwest

“When we first partnered with Nike, this is exactly what we endeavoured to do together — create the most innovative uniform in sports with the most unique designs that would invigorate fans bases and help reach new fans,” said MLB Chief Revenue Officer Noah Garden in the press release. “These All-Star uniforms are the culmination of years of collaboration with Nike and athletes. Our partners at New Era and Stance have been just as dedicated and thoughtful in completing these looks, too. I can’t wait to see it all come together in Seattle.”

We’ll have to wait to find out if this changes anything on the team design front for 2024, but as has been the case with previous MLB league-wide “chassis” changes, I imagine most fans won’t notice this switch has even happened.

“ASG 23” inside the back collar for both the AL and NL All-Star jerseys

Visually, it’s tough to see the difference in cuts. The two examples used to unveil the new uniforms are very dark, and I only have photographs to go off of, but at this point, they appear very similar to the 2023 style — the end of each sleeve looks a little different, and it seems the stitching down the front of the jersey (on either side of the buttons) is closer together than before. Other than that, the major differences will likely come down to how they physically feel due to the materials used.

“The Future is Here” refers to the future of baseball: these All-Stars and the new Nike jersey.

Next year’s 2024 MLB All-Star Game will be held in Arlington, Texas, home of the Texas Rangers, we’re still waiting on the logo for that one, but of course, you know we’ll have all the details on that one when it’s released.
