After shelving them for 10 seasons due to the NFL’s one-helmet rule, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially reintroduced their creamsicle throwback uniforms on Wednesday morning.
The uniforms – which will be worn against the Detroit Lions on Oct. 15 (1 p.m. ET on FOX) – feature a white helmet with Bucco Bruce decals on both sides, florescent orange jerseys with red accents and white pants with a traditional striping pattern.

“Our fans have waited a decade to see our players back in these classic creamsicle jerseys, and we are excited to celebrate our rich legacy when we debut these one-of-a-kind uniforms on Oct. 15th against the Detroit Lions,” chief operating officer Brian Ford said.
The Buccaneers donned this look from their inaugural season in 1976 until a rebrand in 1997, which included a pewter and red color scheme and a pirate flag for their primary logo. They notably went an NFL-worst 100-233-1 during that span, including an infamous 0-26 start.
Tampa Bay previously wore creamsicle throwback uniforms for one game every season from 2009-12 before the NFL implemented the aforementioned one-helmet rule. The Buccaneers went 1-3 in those games, with the lone win coming against the Green Bay Packers in 2009.
Those uniforms featured screenprinted numbers and stripes on a mesh template, while the version that will be worn in 2023 and beyond has tackle twill numbers and nameplates and sewn-on stripes on Nike’s Vapor F.U.S.E. template, which is new to the league this season.
In addition to the uniforms, which are complete with orange socks that have the same stripes as the sleeves, the Buccaneers will paint the field at Raymond James Stadium with a throwback design and install retro bunting to match their original home, Tampa Stadium.
