South America’s biggest soccer tournament is once again heading north in 2024, and the countdown is officially on with the official release of the tournament logo.
On Monday, July 17, CONMEBOL — the governing body of soccer in South America — unveiled the logo for the 2024 Copa América, which will be held in the United States starting on June 20, 2024.
The logo features the Copa América trophy front and center, with a circular shield behind containing stars and stripes from the U.S. flag and two soccer players.
The use of red, white and blue is not only a nod to the host nation, but “also symbolize the sky and the greatest exponents of this sport,” CONMEBOL says on its website.
“It has to do with fusion and tradition, combining the essence of South American football with the spirit of the North American continent. I want to thank everyone who was involved in the creation of this new identity and, at the same time, invite soccer lovers to join and go to the United States.”
— Alejandro Domínguez, CONMEBOL president
This is the second time the U.S. has hosted a Copa América tournament, with the previous time being in 2016. Host cities and venues have not yet been announced.
All 10 CONMEBOL nations (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela) will participate in the 2024 Copa América, along with six teams from CONCACAF, the governing body for soccer in North and Central America. Four of those six teams will be nations that qualify for the 2023-24 CONCACAF Nations League A semifinals, while the other two will be determined through play-in rounds.
