Arsenal, Real Madrid Make Waves with 23-24 Away Kits – Plus Other European Unveilings

Premier League side Arsenal are ready to make waves with their 2023-24 away kit, made by Adidas.

The kit was unveiled on Tuesday, July 18, while the club was on its preseason tour of the United States and worn for the first time as they competed in the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge in Washington, D.C., that same night.

The base of the kit is bright yellow, with broad, fluid black lines across the front of the shirt and the sleeves that are inspired by a map of Arsenal’s home borough of Islington in North London. In the between the lines is a pattern of black dots. “The design represents the journeys supporters make out of the club’s home borough for away days on the road,” Arsenal said on its website.

Arsenal has both black and yellow shorts listed in their online store as options to go along with the shirt. The only sock option listed is a bright yellow pair with the fluid black lines across them.

Interestingly, Arsenal specifically listed this kit as a “men’s away kit,” fueling speculation that the Arsenal women’s team would have their own bespoke away kit this season.

La Liga side Athletic Bilbao have also gone with light blue for their 2023-24 away kit, but with a very different inspiration. The kits, made by Castore, feature a repeating tonal pattern of lions’ heads all over the shirt; this pattern is inspired by the legend of Saint Mammes, “who was thrown to the lions by the Romans but managed to tame the beasts and walk away unscathed.” One of Athletic’s first pitches was built next to a chapel dedicated to Saint Mammes, and the club adopted the nickname “Los Leones” (“the Lions”) because of it. Even today, the club plays in the Estadio San Mamés. The V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs of the kit are dark blue with a light blue stripe through the center. The club crest is rendered in two-tone blue on the left chest.

The club crest appears on the left chest in dark blue, as do sponsor logos and trim on the crew neck collar.
