The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Thursday they will unveil their long-awaited Kelly green throwback uniforms on July 31.
There won’t be any surprises on Monday, however, as we already know the uniforms will replicate the Randall Cunningham era, with Kelly green jerseys with white block numbers outlined in black and the Eagles’ 1987-95 alternate logo on the sleeves.
The jerseys will be paired with a Kelly green helmet with silver wings outlined in white and a silver facemask, silver pants with a Kelly green and white striping pattern down the sides and white socks that include a pair of Kelly green stripes.
This will just be the second time that Philadelphia has worn Kelly green throwback uniforms since the franchise moved to midnight green in 1996, joining the 1960-63 design worn in the 2010 season opener against the Green Bay Packers.
The Eagles notably painted a throwback design on the field at Lincoln Financial Field for that game, and will presumably do the same this year. It’s unclear how many times they’ll wear the throwback uniforms, though they can do so in up to three games each season.
Additionally, the introduction of a Kelly green helmet means the Eagles’ black alternate helmet – which made three appearances after being unveiled last season – will be shelved for 2023. They’re hoping the NFL eventually relaxes its two-lid rule to allow for both in the future, however.
