Devil’s in the Details for Manchester United Third Kit – Plus More from England, Germany and Spain

Premier League powerhouses Manchester United are feeling devilishly good about their new third kits for 2023-24, made by Adidas.

The kit celebrates Man Utd’s iconic red devil symbol, which first appeared on the club crest in the 1940s but returned for good and was placed on their shirts for the first time in 1973. On the new kit, the red devil is isolated and placed prominently on the left chest.

The base of the kit is “cloud white,” a color inspired by Man Utd’s FA Cup-winning season of 1908-09. Sponsor logos and names and numbers on the back printed in red. The crew neck collar is red with a white pinstripe, and overlaps in the front. The Adidas shoulder stripes are also white, blending in with the base of the shirt.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND – Cup Kit

As they have in recent seasons, Borussia Dortmund have released a special version of their home kit, made by Puma, to wear in the 2023-24 DFB-Pokal and UEFA Champions League competitions. The “retro-futuristic” design featured black dots on the yellow base that form a pattern of geometric shapes. A solid yellow band across the chest contains the logo of sponsor Evonik, which only appears on this kit and not on BVB’s Bundesliga kits. The polo collar is black with a chevron at the front of the V-neck.

BORUSSIA MÖNCHENGLADBACH – Away and Third

Fellow Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach released their away and third kits, made by Puma, at the same time in late July. Both feature black pixelated stripes that break up around the area for a sponsor logo; these “disruptive design elements … elegance with tradition on the vertical stripes, resulting in a new and progressive design.” The away shirt features the stripes on a green base with a V-neck collar, while the third kit uses a white base, black sleeves and a crew neck collar.

VfL BOCHUM – Third

Bundesliga side VfL Bochum are turning up the volume for their 2023-24 third kit, made by Mizuno. The kit features a bright coral base with an embossed pattern of jagged diagonal lines across the front. The sleeve cuffs and collar are navy blue with coral stripes through the middle.

TSG 1899 HOFFENHEIM – Third

Elsewhere in Germany, Bundesliga side TSG 1899 Hoffenheim are also bringing a lot of color to their 2023-24 third kit, made by Joma. The shirt starts as yellow at the top and fades through a splatter pattern to “Blazing Orange” at the bottom. The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are navy blue with two yellow stripes.

VfB STUTTGART – Away

Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart unveiled their new away kit made by Jako last week, going with an all-red look. The shirt has a tonal pattern that “hints at the relief of Württemberg from Lake Constance to the Tauber valley and clearly shows characteristic terrain features of our homeland such as the Swabian Alb.” A dark red band across the chest contains the logo of the club’s new main sponsor, betting firm Winamax.

1. FC UNION BERLIN – Home and Away

Bundesliga side 1. FC Union Berlin draw inspiration from the terraces of their home stadium for their 2023-24 home and away kits, made by Adidas. Both feature a pattern of diagonal shapes representing the crush barriers at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei — it’s embossed on red home kit and comprised of light grey dots on the white away kits. The home kit has a red henley collar and white accents, while the away kit has a white crew neck collar, red accents and a monochrome red crest.

WERDER BREMEN – Third

While other Bundesliga sides have cranked up the color for their third kits in 2023-24, Werder Bremen and manufacturer Hummel have gone the other way. Werder’s new third kit is black with a dark green pattern of stripes at various angles and thicknesses covering the front and back. The raglan sleeves are black with white Hummel chevrons on the shoulders.

RAYO VALLECANO – Home, Away and Third

In Spain, La Liga side Rayo Vallecano know they have a good thing when it comes to their kits, so they’re sticking with for 2023-24. Their home kits, made by Umbro, feature the club’s traditional white base and lightning bolt sash down the front and back, along with gold accents on the collar and sleeve cuffs. The away kit, which they wore in a friendly against Brighton and Hove Albion last week, is black with red bolts and the same gold accents as the home kit. The third kit is full gold with black bolts and black and white accents.

RCD MALLORCA – Away and Third

RCD Mallorca are ready for the 2023-24 La Liga after unveiling both their away and third kits in recent weeks. The away kit builds off the horizontal pinstripes found on their red home kit, this time putting red stripes on a black base, with dark grey hoops in between and a monochrome gold crest. The third kit pays tribute to the ocean around the island of Mallorca with its light blue sleeves and turquoise body.

UD ALMERÍA – Third

La Liga side UD Almería is ready to shine in their 2023-24 third kit, made by Castore. The kit features a patchwork pattern of tonal geometric shapes on a blue base. The V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs feature white trim, and the club crest is monochrome white on the left chest.

LUTON TOWN – Away

“The shirt is the shirt is the shirt,” Luton Town boldly proclaimed on its website when they unveiled the home kits for their Premier League debut in 2023-24. Much the same could be said about their away kit made by Umbro, which simply swaps the orange and white from the home jersey, keeping the navy blue accents on the collar and sleeve cuffs.

BURNLEY FC – Third

Burnley FC are ready for the Premier League spotlight in 2023-24 thanks to their new third kit made by Umbro. The dark naby blue shirt features a light blue graphic depicting the floodlights at Burnley’s home stadium, Turf Moor, that “celebrates the special feeling of a night of football under the lights.” The sleeves and collar are solid black, while the club crest, Umbro logo and trim on the sleeve cuffs are yellow.

AFC BOURNEMOUTH – Third

Premier League side AFC Bournemouth dig into their past for the inspiration for their 2023-24 third kit, made by Umbro. The half-yellow, half-navyblue design harkens back to the away kit Bournemouth wore between 1996 and 1998. But it adds a modern twist with a brush stroke texture on the sides of the yellow panel. The V-neck collar is navy blue with yellow trim and a yellow insert at the front, and the sleeve cuffs are solid yellow.

CRYSTAL PALACE – Third

Meanwhile, fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace is prominently featuring the graffiti found around their South London home on their 2023-24 third kit made by Macron. The black kit has a sublimated tonal graffiti pattern all over that contains the phrase “SOUTH LONDON & PROUD” along with other designs. The left half of the V-neck collar and left sleeve cuff are red, while the same elements are blue on the right side.

SHEFFIELD UNITED – Away

As they make their return to the Premier League this season, Sheffield United harken back to days gone by with their 2023-24 away kit, made by Erreà. The shirt is solid yellow with narrow embossed vertical stripes, a color that evokes Sheffield United’s away kits from the 1980s and 1990s. The V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs are black with a red pinstripe through the middle, and the collar has a yellow insert at the front. The Erreà logo and club crest are monochrome black.
