On the eve of domestic seasons kicking off in England, France and Spain this weekend, clubs across Europe are still rolling new kits. Here’s a closer look at some of the unveilings from the last few days:
MANCHESTER CITY – Away
Premier League side Manchester City pays tribute to its home city’s industrial roots with its 2023-24 away kits, made by Puma. It’s inspired by “the towering mills, buzzing warehouses and industry of the city with the all-over tonal graphic print gives the shirt a retro feel and it draws inspiration from archival weave patterns from Manchester,” according to the club’s website. The V-neck polo collar and sleeve cuffs are maroon, while the sponsor logos and club crest are a reflective metallic orange.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR – Away
Fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur quietly released their new away kit, made by Nike, on Friday, August 11. “Inspired by Tottenham’s vibrant music scene and streetwear culture,” according to the club, the kit has a dark blue base with purple accents under the arm and at the front of the slate blue polo collar. Slate blue and purple trim also appear on the sleeve cuffs. The club crest and Nike swoosh on the chest are made of a holographic material.
LIVERPOOL FC – Third
Premier League side Liverpool FC surprised fans at a concert in Liverpool this week when three players came on stage wearing the team’s 2023-24 third kit, made by Nike. The shirt is purple with a tonal ripple pattern all over the front, back and sleeves. It also has black collarbone inserts, side panels and sleeve cuffs. The sponsor logos and club crest are white.
REAL MADRID – Third
Meanwhile in Spain, La Liga powerhouses Real Madrid unveiled their 2023-24 third kit, made by Adidas, on Thursday, August 10. It features a black base with yellow accents like the club crest, sponsor logos and an embroidered “RMFC” monogram on the left side of the henley collar. “Its design is elegant yet sporty, creating a versatile, simple and elegant garment,” the club says on its website. The Adidas shoulder stripes are dark grey.
FC AUGSBURG – Away
German Bundesliga side FC Augsburg are showing their “clear commitment” to their home city with their 2023-24 away kits, made by Mizuno. “The new away kit is a clear commitment to the city of Augsburg and represents not only diversity but also the cohesion between the fans and the club,” according to the club website. The shirts are green with gold trim on the sleeve cuffs and the back half of the collar. The front of the shirt has slightly darker green vertical stripes with gold pinstripes in between.
BAYER LEVERKUSEN – Third
Fellow Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen draw inspiration from the rivers around their city for their 2023-24 third kits, made by Castore. “On the Wupper, Dhünn and Rhine, that’s where our heart beats for our club — the new alternate jersey of Bayer 04,” reads the listing in the club’s online shop. The shirt is bright blue with white markings to emulate the surface of a river. The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are black with a white pinstripe, and the sponsor logos and club crest are monochrome white.
LE HAVRE AC – Home and Away
Over in France, Le Havre AC are back in Ligue 1 for the first time since 2008, and they’ll sport new kits made by Joma. The home kit is the club’s traditional half-light blue, half-navy blue design with a tonal geometric pattern overtop and navy blue and white striping on the V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs. The away kit is solid white with a light blue map of Le Havre near the hem that fades to white as it moves up the shirt.
TOULOUSE FC – Away
After unveiling a home kit with white and purple stripes, Ligue 1 side Toulouse FC swaps the white for a darker shade of purple for their 2023-24 away kits, made by Craft. The crew neck collar, sleeve cuffs and sponsor logos are white, while a solid dark purple panel on the back allows for name and number legibility.
STADE DE REIMS – Third
“Sauvage, urbain, étincelant” (“Wild, urban, sparkling”) proclaims Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims’s website when introducing the club’s new third kit for 2023-24, made by Umbro. The base of the jersey is dark blue with black claw marks running diagonally across the front and black “SR” monograms isolated from the club crest. Sponsor logos and the club crest are metallic gold, as are the pinstripes through the middle of the black sleeve cuffs and the trim on the collar.
EMPOLI FC – Home and Away
Italian Serie A side Empoli FC enter the 2023-24 season with home and away kits by Kappa that are virtually identical to what they wore in 2022-23. The home kit is solid blue with the club crest in the middle of the chest, while the away kit is solid white. The only real embellishment is the hashtag “#EMPOLIFC1920” written on the back of each kit’s collar.
