Third Kits Galore as European Football Seasons Get Underway

With their seasons either underway or about to get started, clubs across Europe’s top domestic football leagues are rounding out their looks for 2023-24 with the release of third kits. Here are five new third kits that have been released recently:

ARSENAL FC

Premier League side Arsenal FC are bringing some retro style to their new third kits for 2023-24, made by Adidas. The kit is solid “mineral green” with “collegiate navy” raglan sleeves and a one-button henley collar, and is inspired by an away kit Arsenal wore in 1982-83; they haven’t worn green outfield kits since then. The Adidas shoulder stripes are a slightly lighter shade of blue, while sponsor logos, the cannon on the chest and the trim on the sleeve cuffs are off-white. An “AFC” monogram is embroidered in off-white on the left side of the collar.

Meanwhile in Italy, perennial Serie A contenders AC Milan celebrate inclusion and diversity with their new third kit, made by Puma. The kit fades from bright blue at the bottom to pink at the top, celebrating “the culture of inclusivity and diversity that has been at the heart of AC Milan since day one.” The club crest and sponsor logos are monochrome white.

While AC Milan cranked up the color on their third kit, their Serie A counterparts Juventus FC is going into stealth mode with their third kit, made by Adidas. The charcoal base of the jersey pays homage to the industrial heritage of the club’s home city of Turin and to legendary Juventus goalkeepers through the years who have worn black, while the ribbed knit pattern was “chosen to represent the textures and surfaces that can be spotted in Turin’s architecture.” The Adidas shoulder stripes are dark grey, only slightly lighter than the base, while the cleeve cuffs are off-white

In Germany, 11-time defending Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich debuted their new third kit in the DFL-Supercup on August 12 against RB Leipzig. The off-white jersey features a pattern of sketches of Bavarian mountain flowers across the front and sleeves. On the chest is a historic club crest in maroon that was used from 1931 to 1935. The Adidas logo and sponsor logos are also rendered in maroon.

Meanwhile in Spain, La Liga side Athletic Bilbao continue to roar in their new third kit made by Castore. The shirt is white with a tonal lion graphic print all over, carrying forward the lion theme from their away kit. The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are red with a white stripe through the middle.
