Leaked: Los Angeles Lakers New City Edition Uniform for 2023-24

NBA leak season is upon us, and we’re kicking things off with a doozy. The Los Angeles Lakers 2023-24 City Edition uniform.

Thanks to a Tweet/X from @Skunwong32, a reliable source of NBA uniform leaks in the past, we can see that the Lakers will be wearing a black jersey with purple-black-purple striping around the collar and each arm. On the chest is a yellow wordmark featuring “LOS ANGELES” in a pyramid formation with the “N” acting as the peak, “LAKERS” is below in a straight line with the player number (in the case of this photo, LeBron James’ #23) in purple with yellow trim.

Take a look:

As I noted in the above graphic, this pyramid treatment is a throwback to a shirt worn by some of the staff of the early Los Angeles Lakers in the 1960s. The Lakers brought it back again during the NBA’s 75th anniversary season in 2021-22 as part of their “Mixtape” uniform, worn on the front of the team’s shooting shirts and on the sides of the shorts that year.

FLASHBACK: The NBA releases its 2022-2023 City Edition Uniforms

This all-black uniform will replace the Lakers “City Edition” set from last year, a mostly forgettable white uniform with “LOS ANGELES” across the chest in purple with black numbers and trim.

Here is a reminder of what that looked like:

Last year’s Lakers’ “City Edition” jersey design

No unveiling date has been announced for when the Lakers will make this uniform official; if the past is any indication, we should expect to see the Lakers (as well as the rest of the NBA) release the 2023-24 City Edition uniforms about a week before the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday.

LOS ANGELES LAKERS ALL-TIME LOGO HISTORY

The Los Angeles Lakers have used two distinct logo designs since the club relocated to California from Minneapolis in 1960.

The first Lakers logo was a temporary design as the club established itself in their new market, a double-blue graphic with LAKERS italicized across a basketball. This general idea morphed into the more familiar logo we have long associated with the Lakers — a gold basketball with “LAKERS” scripted across in “Forum Blue” (now “purple”) lettering featuring speed lines. The Lakers have updated the colours on this same design several times over the years, leading us to the logo the Lakers use today, the new, slightly adjusted colours introduced for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
