The Maryland football program on Tuesday morning unveiled new black alternate uniforms, which will make their on-field debut against Virginia on Sept. 15 (7 p.m. ET on FS1).
The black jerseys follow the same template as the Terrapins’ home and road looks, which were promoted from throwback to full-time status this offseason, with classic white, gold and red stripes on the sleeves and faux-mesh numbers.
Both the home and road uniforms will be paired with a red helmet featuring the iconic “Script Terps” wordmark, matching what the program wore from 1982-91, but this will mark just the second time it has appeared on a black helmet, joining the camouflage Wounded Warriors uniforms in 2010.
The uniform is complete with a red and white striping pattern down the center of the helmet, as well as down the sides of the black pants, which prominently display the “Script Terps” wordmark on the left hip, opposite of the Under Armour manufacturer’s mark.
Maryland also hinted at the unveiling of a gold uniform at the end of Tuesday’s release video, which lines up with the program encouraging fans to wear gold during the Nov. 4 game against Penn State.
The Terrapins notably wore throwback uniforms featuring a gold helmet, gold jersey and black pants during a 42-39 win over Indiana in 2017 as part of their 125th season celebration. It’s unclear if those will return or if it will be an entirely new design.
