English, German Clubs Roll Out New Kits in Early Stages of 2023-24 Season

With top-flight domestic football leagues across Europe now two or three games into their 2023-24 seasons, clubs continue to roll out new kits as they face kit clashes with their opponents. Over the past week, several clubs from England’s Premier League and the German Bundesliga unveiled new kits as part of their 2023-24 wardrobes. Let’s take a close look at them:

BORUSSIA DORTMUND – Away

When Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund held a contest for fans to design their 2023-24 home kits, they got more than they bargained for, as the contest also resulted in a fan-designed away kit being manufactured by Puma. The front and sleeves of the black shirt contains a dark grey pattern depicting an aerial view of Borsigplatz, the borough of Dortmund recognized as the birthplace of Borussia Dortmund. The crew neck collar is black while the sleeve cuffs are yellow.

VfB STUTTGART – Third

Fellow Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart debuted their new third kit for 2023-24, made by Jako, in a 5-1 loss to RB Leipzig on Friday, August 25. The shirt is green with VfB’s trademark band across the chest, this time in black. The tonal pattern covering the shirt depicts various elements of the club’s home stadium, the MHPArena, throughout the years since it was first built in 1933. The collar and sleeve cuffs are black, and the club crest is rendered in black and white.

EINTRACHT FRANKFURT – Third

With black and red diagonal stripes on their home kit and a solid black away kit already unveiled, Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt bring some much-needed contrast to their 2023-24 jersey set with a new white third kit made by Nike. The club debuted the kits in a 1-1 draw against Bulgarian club PFC Levski Sofia in the first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League playoff on Thursday, August 24. The shirt is solid white with a black crew neck collar, sleeve cuffs and sponsor logo. The club crest is rendered in its usual red-and-white colorway.

ASTON VILLA – Third

Premier League side Aston Villa are going abstract with their 2023-24 third kit, made by Castore. The kit features an all-over pattern of jagged geometric shapes in varying shades of blue. The collar and sleeves cuffs are the darkest shade of blue found on the shirt, with a light blue insert at the front of the collar. The club’s new crest sits on the left chest in blue and white.

WEST HAM UNITED – Third

West Ham United is looking to light up the Premier League in their 2023-24 third kits, made by Umbro. The kit has a navy blue base with a light blue triangle lattice pattern near the hem that “immediately recognizes the emblematic floodlight design at London Stadium,” which was initially built for the 2012 Summer Olympics and which West Ham has called home since 2016. Light blue triangular inserts on the sleeves and at the front of the collar reinforce this connection.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS – Third

Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers’ new third kit, made by Castore, combines “pagoda blue and sea jet tones” in an “abstract graffiti style print” on the front of the shirt. The sleeves and back are solid light teal, as are panels on the shoulders. The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are light teal with white trim. The club crest is rendered on the left chest in teal and white.
