Chelsea Keeps ’90s Inspiration Going with 23-24 Away Kit – Plus More Unveilings Around Europe

After turning back the clock with their 2023-24 home kits, Premier League side Chelsea FC is keeping the retro ’90s inspiration going with their new away kit made by Nike.

The shirt has a dark “pitch blue” base with a diamond geometric pattern in a lighter shade of blue they’re calling “soar.” “The fresh design is inspired by Chelsea’s heritage ’90s kits and the glamour of the King’s Road but brings an aesthetic that does not shy away from the cutting edge,” Chelsea’s website declares.

Chelsea is currently selling both its 2023-24 home and away kits without a jersey sponsor logo on the front. The club notes that, if a front-of-shirt partner is announced in the future, fans will have the opportunity to buy that version of the kit. They will not, however, be able to bring back blank kits for partner branding to be applied post-purchase.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR – Third

Fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur debuted their new third kits for 2023-24 in a Carabao Cup tie against Fulham earlier this week. Spurs and Nike are calling the base color “Taupe Haze,” which is sort of a grey-brown . This base color is complemented with black trim on the side panels and sleeve cuffs. A wavy pattern is knit into the fabric of the shirt, with solid inserts at the collarbones.

EVERTON – Third

Like many other clubs outfitted by Danish company Hummel this season, Premier League side Everton’s third kit for 2023-24 takes inspiration from Denmark’s national team kit from the 1986 FIFA World Cup. In Everton’s case, the base of the shirt is grey, with narrow white stripes on the right side of the shirt and darker grey stripes on the left side. The V-neck collar is blue with a white stripe through the middle. Blue panels on the shoulder house white Hummel chevrons. On the left chest, Everton’s usual crest is replaced by a silhouette of Prince Rupert’s Tower, a Liverpool landmark that has appeared in Everton’s crest since 1938.

OLYMPIQUE DE MARSEILLE – Third

French Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille is trying to echo “the burning passion that the people of Marseilles can feel for the club” with their 2023-24 third kit, made by Puma. The shirt marks the return of orange as a third kit color, which OM hasn’t used since 2019-20, and even then it was only an accent color. The orange flames on the black base represent the “the incandescent fervor of the supporters that manifests itself at the Orange Vélodrome, transforming it into a bubbling crater,” according to OM’s website (translated into English by Google). “These songs, these cries, these flags, these tifos and … are also breaking out in the stadiums of France and Europe like a magma of support for the club and the players.”

AC MONZA – Third

Italian Serie A side AC Monza are putting the pedal to the metal with their 2023-24 third kit, made by Lotto. Like their home and away kits, the third kits are inspired by the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, the race track where Formula 1’s Italian Grand Prix will be held this weekend. The third kit features a black base, with a red and white stripe running under the club crest that become a checker pattern near the bottom.
