Major League Rugby’s Toronto Arrows Fly High With New Logos

The Toronto Arrows of Major League Rugby are flying high with their new suite of logos celebrating a major piece of Canadian aviation history.

The Arrows rolled out the logos on their social media accounts starting on Tuesday, September 12. They pay homage to the Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow, a Canadian aviation innovation that was regarded as one of the most advanced aircraft of its era before the program was cancelled in February 1959.

The most prominent of the new logos is what the Arrows call the “Winged A” logo, which is being used as their profile picture on just about all social media platforms. It consists of a slanted A — which can be black or white depending on the background — with three wings coming off the back: one light blue, one silver and one red. Each wing has a white stroke through the middle.

The Arrows also unveiled a new badge, though it’s still unclear how it will be used going forward. It features an illustration of the Avro Arrow on top of a red maple leaf, all of which is contained in a shield with light blue and white lightning bolts. The team’s Latin motto, “EX SUPRA” (“FROM ABOVE”), is written under the airplane.

Officially, the team’s new color palette consists of Sky Blue, Smoke Grey and Canada Red.

The team also unveiled a new “ARROWS” wordmark, with full color and one-color applications available for both light and dark backgrounds.

The Arrows joined MLR in 2017-18 as the Ontario Arrows, then changed their name to the Toronto Arrows in 2018. They previously used an interlocking “TA” monogram with beveled letters and a color scheme of royal blue and white.

Major League Rugby typically runs its regular seasons from February to July each year. In 2023, the New England Free Jacks defeated the San Diego Legion 25-24 in the grand final on July 8. The Arrows, meanwhile, finished last out of six teams in the MLR Eastern Conference with one win, 13 losses and two draws.

The schedule for the 2024 MLR season has not yet been released.
