The Indiana football program will wear new black alternate uniforms during Saturday’s game against Akron (7:30 p.m. ET on BTN).

The black jerseys follow the same template as the Bill Mallory-era home and road uniforms the Hoosiers promoted from throwback to full-time status this season, with a crimson “HOOSIERS” wordmark outlined in white above matching numbers.

The black pants have a thick crimson stripe on both sides, which is flanked by two thin white stripes to match the design of the wordmark and numbers, as well as the “IU” trident on the right hip.

The look is complete with Indiana’s standard crimson helmet, which now features a Block “I” on the sides after using the trident logo for the first three games of the season, as well as a white and black striping pattern down the center and a black facemask.

The Hoosiers have worn black jerseys just once before, in a 49-7 loss to Kentucky in 1997. They began using the color as an accent earlier in the decade and switched to black helmets with a retro oval logo on the sides that season.
