As they prepare to host the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup starting next month, India’s national cricket team has made a couple of subtle changes to their jerseys.
The new jerseys were unveiled on manufacturer Adidas’s social media channels on Wednesday, September 20 — three days after India defeated Sri Lanka in the final of the 2023 Asia Cup.
The jerseys for the 2023 ICC World Cup have two subtle changes from the jerseys India has worn in one-day international (ODI) matches since Adidas started outfitting the team in May 2023.
First, the three Adidas on the shoulders have been recolored from all white to saffron, white and green to mirror the colors of the Indian flag. Second, the number of stars above the crest of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BBCI) on the left chest has been reduced from three to two. This change reflects the number of ICC World Cups that India won in 1983 and 2011.
The third star on the other version of the jerseys represented India’s T20 World Cup championship in 2007.
The base of both jerseys is royal blue with a tonal pattern across the front. The blue polo collar has orange trim and orange inner plackets, and the sleeve cuffs are orange. “INDIA” is spelled out in orange with a white outline across the midsection, while the logo of sponsor Dream11, a fantasy sports platform, sits above. A Dream11 logo also appears on the left sleeve. Player names and numbers are written on the back in orange.
Both versions of the ODI jerseys are visible in the Adidas unveiling video above. Players are wearing the World Cup jersey, while fans are wearing the previous ODI jersey.
The video also shows players wearing jerseys with the Adidas logo on the right chest, though this may be replaced with the ICC World Cup logo during the actual tournament. During the Asia Cup, the tournament logo sat in this position and the Adidas logo moved to the right sleeve.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) currently ranks India as the world’s number two team in the one-day international (ODI) format, behind only rivals Pakistan. In ODI cricket, each team has 50 overs of six balls each to score the most runs possible without losing all 10 of its wickets.
India continues its preparations for the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup with three matches against Australia between September 22 and 27 along with other warm-up matches against England and the Netherlands. Their World Cup campaign opens on Sunday, October 8, when they once again face Australia at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
