T-Wolves to Wear Classic ’89 Uniforms 25 Times in 2023-24

The Minnesota Timberwolves will celebrate their 35th season with a little retro style during the 2023-24 NBA campaign.

Earlier today, the Timberwolves unveiled their new “Classic Edition” uniform inspired by the home whites worn by the team from their inaugural year in 1989-90 right up through the end of the 1995-96 season.

“We’re taking it back to ‘89 as we go old school cool in celebration of 35 years of Timberwolves basketball,” said Timberwolves and Lynx Chief Marketing Officer Mike Grahl in the press release. “We’re excited for fans to experience the blend of our past with our present, as we build toward the future together.”

The uniform is white with “Old Shep blue” and “Old Shep green” trim around the collar and both arms. The abbreviated team name of “WOLVES” is arched across the chest in blue with white and green trim, matching that of the player’s number centred directly below.

Minnesota will wear the retro threads for an incredible twenty-five games during the 2023-24 season, or one-third of their entire schedule. This leaves the club with just 57 games to cram in the other four uniforms (Icon, Association, Statement, and City) that they’ll be wearing during the year.

Of those 25 throwback uniform games, 11 will be played in Minnesota on the team’s new retro-inspired court, which features the Minnesota Timberwolves original logo at centre court.

The era in which the Timberwolves originally wore this uniform wasn’t exactly the best basketball the franchise has seen; keeping in mind this was an expansion team, the club went 152-422 for a .265 winning percentage in the seven seasons they were worn.
