OHL’s Peterborough Petes Get Back to Basics With New Jerseys

The Ontario Hockey League’s Peterborough Petes are getting back to basics with their new home and away uniforms for the 2023-24 season.

The Petes unveiled their new maroon road jerseys on their social media accounts on Tuesday, September 26, and teased that the new white home jerseys would be seen for the first time during their regular season home opener on Thursday, September 28.

The road jersey that we didn’t have to wait for is mostly maroon with white vertical stripes running from the shoulders and down the sleeves; one-color maroon numbers are set inside the stripes. The white collar has a maroon insert in the front with white laces running over top. The Petes logo on the chest is one-color white, as are the names and numbers on the back.

The white stripes on the sleeves have no outline, marking a departure from the Petes’ previous uniforms — which they had been wearing in preseason games this month — where the sleeve stripes had maroon and white outlines. The white side panels from the previous set are also gone.

The new Petes’ uniforms also feature new patches on both shoulders in the shape of a shield with the letters “TPT” inside, along with the Petes logo and nine horizontal pinstripes. When the team was founded in 1956, they were sponsored by Toronto-Peterborough Transport and were known as the TPT Petes. The team officially changed its name to “Peterborough Petes” in 1966.

The Petes’ home opener featuring the debut of the new white home jerseys is on Thursday, September 28, against the Kingston Frontenacs. The Petes will also raise a banner at this game commemorating their 2022-23 OHL championship.

UPDATE (September 29, 2023): The Petes did indeed break out their new white jerseys during their home opener against Kitchener on Thursday. The whitejerseys are a straight color swap of the maroon set with white laces at the front of the collar.
