Another Game, Another Jersey Blunder for England at Cricket World Cup

It was another game, another jersey blunder for England’s national cricket team at the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup over the weekend.

England took on Afghanistan on Sunday at Arun Jaitley in Delhi, and while a previous problem with inconsistent fonts on the front of their Castore shirts had been fixed, the troubles had migrated to the back of their shirts.

Against Afghanistan, some English players had the names and numbers on the backs of their shirts in a sans serif font similar to Arial, while others had theirs in a more angular font similar to Agency.

The England Cricket Board said a “third party” was to blame for the previous error, but it’s unclear who was at fault for the latest gaffe.

England didn’t look the best in their match on Sunday, and they didn’t play their best either. They lost to Afghanistan by 69 runs in what was considered a major upset. England, the defending World Cup champions, were ranked sixth in the ICC men’s one-day international rankings heading into the tournament; Afghanistan was ranked ninth, but with a large gap in ranking points between them.

England’s next opportunity to redeem themselves comes on Saturday, October 21, when they face South Africa at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
