While they won’t be officially revealed until next month, the Los Angeles’ Clippers’ 2023-24 City Edition uniforms leaked over the weekend.
While we can confirm the legitimacy of both the jersey and shorts, the overall inspiration is unclear. The wordmark appears to be based on the Clippers’ 1978-82 logo, however, which would mark the second time in three years that they pay homage to their time in San Diego.
A unique aspect of the uniforms is the hand-drawn basketballs that dot the “i” and sit above the jock tag. There are also flowers next to the Clippers’ wordmark below the jock tag, which could offer a clue as to what the design is supposed to represent.
Meanwhile, the hand-drawn basketballs can be seen inside the “LA” logo on the left side of the shorts. This “LA” logo, which is also featured without the basketballs on the waistband, can be seen in both Los Angeles’ primary logo and wordmark.
While the initial reactions to the uniforms have not been kind – and that includes a post/tweet from Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma – we’re looking forward to hearing the story behind the design in a few weeks.
