New PWHL Logo Spotted Early During Trademark Search

It appears the logo of the brand-new Professional Women’s Hockey League has slipped through the cracks, revealing itself before its official debut.

Though the league has yet to showcase this design to the public, we’ve got an early look, thanks to Clark Rasmussen of DetroitHockey.Net. Rasmussen spotted the logo during a routine search of the USPTO trademark database.

Emerging from the legacy of the former Premier Hockey Federation (previously the National Women’s Hockey League), the PWHL seems set to “make its mark.” The logo consists of a stylized “W,” highlighting the “Women’s” in their title. With crossed hockey sticks and a puck woven into its design, perhaps a nod to the league’s ethos of “grit with grace and speed with style.”

This summer, the PWHL rolled out the markets chosen for its own “Original Six” franchises: Boston, Minnesota, Montreal, New York, Ottawa, and Toronto — all but Ottawa were part of the former PHF. While we’ve had hints of each team’s colours, the real fun for us is still to come whenever they reveal the team names and logos.

The logos from the final year of the PHF, five of these markets will return in the new PWHL

The new Professional Women’s Hockey League is scheduled to drop the puck on their first season in early 2024.
