The Western Hockey League’s Regina Pats are deviating from their usual color scheme for a very good reason tonight (October 27).
The team is hosting their 15th annual Cancer Awareness Game tonight at 7p.m. against the Saskatoon Blades at the Brandt Centre. For the occasion, the Pats have teamed up with local streetwear brand 22Fresh to produce special themed uniforms, which will be auctioned off after the game.
The jerseys take the Pats’ regular template and swap in different shades of purple. The base is light purple, while stripes around the sleeves and waist are medium and dark purple. The collar is also dark purple. A purple ribbon and the 22Fresh logo appear on the left shoulder, while a full color Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry badge — the Canadian Armed Forces regiment from which the team gets their name — appears on the right shoulder.
The unveiling video posted to Twitter earlier this week also show players in light purple pants and socks with darker purple stripes. The 22Fresh logo and purple ribbon also appear on the front of the socks.
Proceeds from the jersey auction will go to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan. The Pats and 22Fresh are also selling limited edition themed T-shirts and hoodies, with proceeds also going to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan.
“This collaboration and game night focused on cancer awareness provides a platform to share stories of triumph, acknowledge those impacted by this terrible disease, while at the same time, raise money for cancer research through the sale of specialty themed jerseys and merchandise. It is an initiative we are truly proud of as an organization,” Pats CEO Gord Pritchard said on the team’s website.
Over the past 14 years, the Pats have raised more than $130,000 for the fight against cancer through their Cancer Awareness Games.
