The Minnesota Vikings announced on Thursday they will wear their Purple People Eater-era throwback uniforms on Monday Night Football against the Chicago Bears on Nov. 27 (8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN).

The uniforms, which pay homage to the defense that led the Vikings to 10 division titles and four Super Bowl appearances between 1968-78, notably feature a deeper purple hue, gold-trimmed block numbers and a classic striping pattern on the jerseys and pants.

Minnesota debuted the design in the 20-17 season-opening loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 10. The uniforms also included a patch on the left shoulder in honor of legendary coach Bud Grant, who passed away in March at the age of 95.

The Vikings wore a similar throwback uniform for at least one game each season from 2007-11, as well, though that design has solid white numbers and glossy purple helmets, while they put throwback decals and a gray facemask on their standard satin purple helmet this time around.

Additionally, Minnesota painted classic stripes in the end zones and installed retro wall wraps at U.S. Bank Stadium for the game against the Buccaneers. Those classic touches will likely return for next weekend’s matchup with the Bears.
