Philadelphia Phillies Ditch Red Jerseys for 2024

The Philadelphia Phillies will not wear their red jerseys during the 2024 season, confirms Tim Kelly from Phillies Nation. SportsLogos.Net’s sources have also backed up this confirmation. It’s happening.

Speculation is that the uniform was removed from the team’s rotation due to Nike’s 4 plus 1 guideline, which caps a team at four jersey designs per season (including Spring Training) plus one “City Connect” option. During the 2023 season, the Phillies had a home white, home alternate cream, road grey, throwback powder blue, and a road alternate red — that’s five, one too many in Nike’s new MLB uniform world.

The red alternate jerseys were the first regularly worn regular-season red uniforms in the long history of the Phillies. Making the jump from Spring Training to meaningful baseball in 2016, these jerseys were worn occasionally in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. After a hiatus, they reappeared for 2021 and 2022, culminating in 19 road appearances in 2023. Their final game action was during the Phillies’ 6-1 victory over Arizona in Game 5 of the NLCS — the club’s last victory of 2023.
