What happened in Lethbridge, Alberta, on Friday night didn’t stay in Lethbridge.
The Western Hockey League’s Lethbridge Hurricanes sported casino-themed jerseys on Friday, December 8, as part of “Leth Vegas” Night at the Enmax Centre against the Swift Current Broncos. The game was sponsored by Pure Casino Lethbridge and featured Vegas-themed giveaway and entertainment throughout the evening.
The Hurricanes’ jerseys were dark blue with black stripes bordered in red running down each arm and a “Welcome to Fabulous Leth Vegas” neon sign graphic on the front. Inside each black arm stripe were neon sign-style slot machine symbols, including cherries, bells and plums. A neon-sign style Hurricanes logo appeared on each shoulder.
The numbers on the back and sleeve were set in white slot machine-style font with a red outline. The names on the backs of the jerseys were in a white western-style font with red dots inside.
The jerseys were paired with the Hurricanes’ usual blue gloves, helmets and pants, along with solid black socks.
The game-worn Leth Vegas jerseys are currently being auctioned off to benefit the Lethbridge Hurricanes Education Fund. The auction runs until 9 p.m. MT on Thursday, December 14.
Friday’s game was the first half of a home-and-home series against the Broncos. The Hurricanes won Friday’s game 5-3, but fell 3-1 in the rematch on Saturday.
