QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads Throw It Back to the ’90s for New Alternates

With their 30th anniversary just around the corner, the Halifax Mooseheads just couldn’t wait to start the celebrations.

The Mooseheads joined the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team in 1994. And now, with 2024 less than a month away, the team has unveiled new alternate jerseys that “pays tribute” to what they wore when they first joined the league.

The jersey is predominantly red, with a solid green collar and diagonal green, red and white striping at the waist and on the sleeves. The shoulder patch features the Halifax Town Clock tower jutting out of the shape of the Halifax Citadel.

The numbers on the back and sleeves are white with green outlines, while the names on the back are one-color white. The jersey is paired with green helmets, gloves and pants. The red socks have the same striping pattern as the jerseys.

The Mooseheads logo on the front of the new alternate and the shoulder patches are the same as those found on their regular home and road jerseys. Their current jerseys have rounded shoulder yokes and three stripes around the waist and each arm.

“We are truly excited about … the launch of our ’94s’ jersey,” Mooseheads chair and owner Sam Simon said in a press release. “In speaking with both the business [and] hockey staff and gathering fan feedback, it was unanimous on the need to bring back a red jersey that is a tribute to the club’s history. Every detail was carefully thought through, ensuring a true retro look, and we hope everyone is as happy as we are with the result.”

The Mooseheads wore the new jerseys for both their games over the weekend, including a 4-3 win over the Drummondville Voltigeurs on Thursday and a 5-4 win over the Gatineau Olympiques on Friday.

They’ll wear the jerseys “at select games throughout the remainder of their 30th anniversary season.”
