The Miami Dolphins will wear the home version of their 1966 throwback uniforms during Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys (4:25 p.m. ET on FOX), which will look very similar to their matchup in Super Bowl VI.
This marks the ninth straight season the Dolphins have worn the throwback design, which was introduced in 2015 as part of their 50th season celebration. A road version was then added to the rotation in 2019.
The home version features a traditional stripping pattern on the sleeves of the aqua jerseys, white helmets with a gray facemask and vintage logo on the sides and white pants, while the road version naturally includes white jerseys.
Miami is 9-4 in the home version of the throwback uniforms and 2-3 in the road version, including a 31-17 win over the New England Patriots on Oct. 29. This will be the fourth time they’ve worn both in the same year, joining the 2019-21 seasons.
Of course, the Dolphins hope Sunday’s result is much different than Super Bowl VI, which Dallas won 24-3. The most notable visual difference between that matchup and today’s is the Cowboys had gray pants that matched their helmets at the time.
In addition to the uniforms, Miami will paint a retro design on the field at Hard Rock Stadium. That includes the Dolphins’ 1966-73 logo at midfield and a throwback helmet, vintage wordmark and NFL shield inside the orange end zones.
Miami used this end zone design in a 17-7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018, a 37-31 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in 2019 and a 33-24 win over the Patriots to end the 2021 season, but had a diamond design for the other throwback games.
