Arsenal Relaunches ‘No More Red’ Kits for FA Cup Match vs. Liverpool

After raising awareness about knife violence through their kits in both 2022 and 2023, English Premier League side Arsenal FC have once again revived their “No More Red” campaign for their upcoming FA Cup matches.

Arsenal’s men’s team will wear their all-white kits on Sunday, January 7, when they host Liverpool in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup. Their women’s team will also wear them on Sunday, January 14, for their Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth-round fixture against Watford.

The 2024 version of the kits feature all club, sponsor and manufacturer logos in white on a white base. The idea is that, by taking Arsenal’s famous red out of their kits, they can draw attention to the epidemic of knife crime in the United Kingdom and to the efforts of organizations that keep young people safe.

“No More Red provides a unique opportunity to highlight almost four decades of our local community work that has helped to keep thousands of young people safe.

“Young people face multiple challenges as they grow up in today’s world and we don’t have all the answers, but we are confident that by acting together and shining a light on the support network available across our community, we can make a significant contribution to the lives of our participants.”

— Freddie Hudson, Arsenal in the Community

In both 2022 and 2023, the kits worn in Arsenal’s actual matches had a red FA Cup patch on one sleeve, and the numbers on the back had a black outline. In 2023, the kits pictured in the club’s announcement had white logos on a white base, but the match kits had a black Adidas logo, a black club crest and a black outline around the logo of sponsor Emirates Airlines on the chest.

Like in previous years, the all-white kits will not be made available for sale to the general public. Instead, the shirts will be given to “community champions who are making a positive difference.”

Fans, however, will be able to buy a new bespoke community T-shirt from Arsenal stores starting January 29. 100% of the retail price of the T-shirts will be donated in equal portions to No More Red charity partners.

The T-shirt — which the club didn’t provide any photos of in Thursday’s announcement — was designed by an artist named Nellie-Rose, who participated in one of the No More Red social action projects hosted in 2023. Her design was chosen for its celebration of diversity, togetherness and Arsenal’s role as a home for the local community.

“Community is everything and is what No More Red is all about, so it was important this was brought to life in my design. I feel proud that my creation was chosen to represent the campaign and provide the community with another way to support and feel connected to the initiative.”

“Since we first launched No More Red in 2022, we have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm from supporters wanting to contribute to the initiative,” added Chris Walsh, VP Brand Northern Europe at Adidas. “Whilst the No More Red shirt will never be commercially available, the introduction of the No More Red community t-shirt will give supporters an opportunity to show their support, and a way of making a direct impact.”

In addition to the all-white kits, Arsenal is supporting No More Red in 2024 by opening a new community pitch at Mayville Estate, Islington; continuing its mentor-led social action projects; and continuing its volunteer incentive scheme alongside charity partners, through which supporters can donate their time to support the charities.

Arsenal’s FA Cup third-round match against Liverpool kicks off at 11:30 a.m. ET on Sunday. It will be broadcast on Sportsnet in Canada and on ESPN+ in the United States.

UPDATE (Sunday, January 7, 2024): As they did in 2023, the actual match shirts Arsenal wore against Liverpool on Sunday had a black-and-white crest, a black Adidas logo and black outlines around the sponsor logos. They also had the FA Cup badge on the right sleeve along with the “No Room for Racism” badge normally worn in Premier League matches.

Liverpool wore their purple away kits for the match.
