The ECHL’s Adirondack Thunder are turning things over to the kids for their game this weekend.
The Thunder are hosting their annual Kid’s Day Game on Sunday, January 7, against the Trois-Rivières Lions. And they’re once again marking the occasion with special kid-designed jerseys.
The body of the jersey is white, while the sleeves look like they’ve been colored in with a black marker. The shoulders and cuffs are the same shade of red as found in the Thunder’s primary logo — which is also found on each shoulder — and have the same marker effect as the sleeves.
The front of the jersey features “Thunder” spelled out in a black handwriting font above a black hand-drawn lightning bolt. Numbers on the sleeves are white with a red outline, while numbers on the back are one-color black.
UPDATE (Sunday, January 7, 2024): Just before their Kid’s Day Game on Sunday, the Thunder tweeted some more info about their jerseys. They designed by Brooke Priest, who was given a customized jersey and dropped the puck at the game.
The Thunder’s social media channels mention that Sunday’s jerseys will have “special nameplates.” In years past, this has meant nicknames in place of players’ surnames. However, for one player this year, it means a touch of home. Forward Yushiroh Hirano — a native of Tomakomai, Japan — will have his name spelled out in Japanese characters on his jersey.
UPDATE (Sunday, January 7, 2024): The Thunder tweeted out photos of players with their nicknames on their nameplates prior to Sunday afternoon’s game.
Puck drop between the Thunder and the Lions is at 3 p.m. ET at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls, New York. The Kid’s Day Game also features a postgame skate with Thunder players. Game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off, though the team didn’t specify which charity the proceeds would go toward.
