The Double-A Reading Fightin Phils will play their 21st annual morning game with a temporary brand that pays tribute to a regional delicacy. The Fightins will play as the Cream Chipped Beef in uniforms that evoke the red-checkered table cloths you might find at a Pennsylvania deli.
Cream chipped beef—more commonly called “creamed chipped beef,” and also called “cream chip beef” throughout a press release issued by the team—has its roots in military recipe books dating back more than a century. It features dried, pressed beef in a white gravy over toast.
Per tradition, gates will open for the annual morning game July 30 at 9:00am, where fans will be greeted by a “brunch boozefest,” a not-uncommon pairing with cream chipped beef. First pitch will be at 11:00am against the Hartford Yard Goats.
