As if the last week hasn’t been hard enough for Washington fans after losing the College Football Playoff National Championship to Michigan and their head coach to Alabama, a store in Tacoma recently put out a display showing the logo the Huskies would have used had they captured the title.
The logo prominently displays the iconic “jaws” of Husky Stadium above a Block “W” and the year. Below that are national championship and team wordmarks, which matches Washington’s zone design, as well as the Huskies’ helmet and sleeve stripes, which emanate from a purple and gold football.
It’s not unusual for the championship logos from a losing team to leak, whether on a t-shirt or on our site, but it’s rare that a phantom logo makes it to the floor, whether on a display or merchandise. After all, the boxes usually arrive at the retailer with a sign that says “do not open unless (insert team here) wins.”
Meanwhile, the Wolverines’ championship logo – which was created by Port Design Company and released shortly after Michigan won the title – places the facade of NRG Stadium and a Block “M” at the top, as well as their iconic winged helmet design and a maize and blue football at bottom.
