According to a report from ESPN Radio host Jake Asman, the New York Jets will make their “New York Sack Exchange” throwback uniforms their permanent road look next season and add a home version to complete the set.
The uniforms, which were originally worn from 1978-89, include white jerseys with two green stripes on the sleeves, a green collar and green block numbers, as well as white pants with a single green stripe down the sides and solid green socks.
They were paired with New York’s standard Gotham green helmets by swapping the black facemask and current logo for a white facemask at retro “JETS” wordmark, which is italicized and features a jet extending from the “J.”
The design – which pays homage to one of the most disruptive defensive lines in NFL history – returned for two games this season, including a 22-16 overtime win over the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 11 and a 23-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 1.
It’s been five seasons since New York unveiled its current uniform set, which features a wing-like design on the shoulders – as shown above – and an all-black alternate. That means they’re eligible for a redesign this offseason, adding some validity to Asman’s report.
That said, we know for certain the Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions and Houston Texans will unveil new uniforms ahead of the 2024 season, with the Seattle Seahawks also rumored to receive a new look. Will the Jets join them? We’ll find out soon enough.
