The St. John’s men’s basketball program will debut 1994-95 throwback uniforms during Saturday’s game against Marquette, which tips off at 12 p.m. ET on FOX.
The uniforms are inspired by – but are not exact replicas of – what the Red Storm wore in their first season after changing their nickname from the Redmen.
That includes the arched “St. John’s” wordmark across the chest and a classic red, yellow and navy striping pattern around the collar and arm holes.
The most notable difference, however, is the lack of a New York City skyline on the bottom of the shorts, as only one skyscraper remains as a side panel on the asymmetrical design.
The uniform is complete with “Thunder,” a red horse with lightning bolt accents that served as the Red Storm’s first mascot, on the left leg of the shorts along with a team wordmark.
In addition to the throwback uniforms, St. John’s has unveiled a new court design ahead of Saturday’s game at Madison Square Garden that pays homage to its original visual identity.
