The Somerset Patriots, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, will play three games in 2024 as the Jersey Diners. The temporary nickname is an homage to the preponderance of this particular and unique style of informal eatery that New Jersey is known for.
The suite of logos, highlighted by an anthropomorphic coffee mug, includes a wordmark that mimics neon lettering, and metalic elements above and below that evoke the distinct metalic surfaces one finds at diners, which are often converted train cars.
The Jersey jerseys (ha!) feature the wordmark against a light blue background, with sleeve cuffs emblazoned with a red and white check pattern reminiscent of diner table cloths.
Designer Ryan Foose of Fooser Sports Design, who created the brand, proclaimed on social media that “New Jersey is the land of the diner.” This point is driven home visually with an alternate mark that features eggs alongside a New Jersey–shaped steak.
Other alternate marks include pancakes with a baseball-shaped pad of butter, a coffee pot with a J for Jersey, and a grilled bacon, tomato, and cheese sandwich—a diner staple.
The Diners will first take the field June 8 against the Hartford Yard Goats.
