AHL’s San Jose Barracuda Bring Fight Against Cancer to the Rink with Pink Jerseys

The American Hockey League’s San Jose Barracuda brought the fight against breast cancer to the rink over the weekend with special edition pink jerseys.

The Barracuda wore the pink sweaters on Saturday, January 27, during the second game of their weekend series against the Calgary Wranglers. The front of the jersey featured a pink barracuda fin logo inside a black roundel, with “SAN JOSE BARRACUDA” spelled out in pink in the top half and “2023-2024” in white in the bottom half. The black shoulder yokes featured recolored logos of both the Barracuda and their NHL parent club, the San Jose Sharks.

Stripes on the waist and sleeves angled upward and contained words like “hope,” “life,” “strength,” “dream,” “battle,” “confidence” and “fight.” Names and numbers on the back and sleeves were black with white outlines, but the number on the left sleeve was replaced with an “I PINK FOR” badge with a blank space to fill in the name of a friend or relative affected by cancer. In photos posted to social media, it appears none of the Barracuda players had written a name in that space during the game.

Game-worn jerseys are being auctioned off through GiveSmart, with bids closing at 5 p.m. PT on Wednesday, January 31. All proceeds from the auction will go to Cancer CAREpoint, a cancer treatment center in San Jose.
